Вельвет: Before all that, though, things will come full circle: there is the little matter of Hylda's own award. The US-Ireland Alliance's Oscar Wilde: Honouring the Irish In Film Award event will make a special presentation to the Clare woman on February 19. The evening will be attended by Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Brendan Gleeson (who will also be honoured) but fittingly, it will be Kate Winslet who will present her long-time friend Hylda with this special award. http://www.independent.ie/entertainment/film-cinema/a-star-in-their-eyes-1605949.html

Вельвет: Hylda Queally, Brendan Gleeson and Jonathan Rhys Meyers to Be Honored at Fourth Annual 'Oscar Wilde: Honoring The Irish in Film' LOS ANGELES, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The US-Ireland Alliance, a non-profit organization created to foster ties between the US and Ireland, will honor Hylda Queally, Brendan Gleeson and Jonathan Rhys Meyers at the fourth annual "Oscar Wilde: Honoring The Irish in Film" Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the Wilshire Ebell. Kate Winslet will present Queally her award. Irish musicians Gemma Hayes, Laura Izibor and Republic of Loose will perform. "We are excited to honor three talented and prominent members of the film community," said Trina Vargo, US-Ireland Alliance Founder and President, "Hylda, Brendan and Jonathan are representative of the myriad talents in the Irish film community. We are honored to have the chance to celebrate their many successes." Hosted by the US-Ireland Alliance, this annual Hollywood event has become the fun, casual Irish party preceding the Academy Awards. The event features an awards program, cocktails, food and live music. This year, Irish musicians Laura Izibor, Gemma Hayes and Republic of Loose will perform. In past years, partygoers have enjoyed Van Morrison, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, Irish musician Duke Special and a number of others. The party is a favorite among celebrities, studio executives, writers, directors and other Hollywood luminaries, as it provides a lighthearted evening with a relaxed atmosphere in an intimate setting. While performing a few years ago, Van Morrison was inspired to give jazz singer Solomon Burke, who was in the audience, a microphone and the two sang an impromptu duet of Stand By Me. Last year, Glen Hansard jumped on a cocktail table with his guitar and led the crowd in a rousing rendition of the Irish song "The Auld Triangle." Previous honorees include James L. Brooks, Colm Meaney, Fiona Shaw, Van Morrison, Terry George, Bill Monahan, Neil Jordan, Jim Sheridan and David Holmes. The event brings out a host of luminaries such as Al Pacino, Jodie Foster, Terrence Howard, Anjelica Huston, Charlize Theron, Stuart Townsend, Roma Downey, Mark Burnett, Rachel Griffiths and Orlando Bloom. Sponsors of the event include Culture Ireland, American Airlines, Quinlan Private and the Walt Disney Studios. http://news.prnewswire.com/DisplayReleaseContent.aspx?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/02-04-2009/0004966664&EDATE=

Вельвет: "There are normally 350-400 guests - invitation only - film execs, financiers, writers, directors, producers, actors, press, corporate executives sponsors and their guests. Guests have included Al Pacino; Jodie Foster; Anjelica Huston; Dick Cook, Chairman of the Walt Disney Studios; Mark Burnett & Roma Downey; Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend; JJ Abrams, Hans Zimmer, Orlando Bloom; Terrence Howard; Daryl Hannah; Colm Meaney; Rachel Griffiths; multi-Grammy Award winning music producer David Foster; Jeffrey Caine, Academy Award® winner Martin McDonagh; Samantha Mumba; Damien Rice; and David Friendly, producer of Little Miss Sunshine. It's a very casual event. No boring, black-tie, sit-down dinner where guests are trapped between two people all night. Celebs walk the 'green' carpet while other guests arrive for a reception. Everyone goes to one room for the presentation part of the program, which is kept to about an hour. Then everyone mingles through a couple of rooms and a courtyard. There is a performance period and food and drinks are served throughout the evening."

Oscar nominee Kate Winslet, winner Helen Mirren and other A-listers will rub shoulders tonight with homegrown talent such as Brendan Gleeson at the Irish party that attracts all the movers and shakers. The annual Oscars Wilde event is now in its fourth year. An intimate and somewhat informal affair, with no more than about 350 guests, it attracts some of the biggest names in Hollywood -- both with and without Irish links. The event in LA's Ebell Club will honour Brendan Gleeson, Jonathan Rhys Myers and super-agent Hylda Queally. In a reversal of roles, Ms Queally's client Kate Winslet will present an Oscar Wilde award to the agent. In previous years, awards have been presented to Jim Sheridan, Neil Jordan, Van Morrison and Fiona Shaw and guests have included Al Pacino, Jodie Foster and Charlize Theron. Last year, veteran director James L Brooks was presented with an honourary Oscar Wilde and since then he has overseen the writing of an all Irish episode of The Simpsons, which is due to be aired in April. Two of the musicians who performed at last year's event, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova were invited by Mr Brooks to guest in the upcoming Irish episode. At the event, he was also invited to teach at the Huston Film School in Galway, which he accepted, although no date has yet been set. The event is the brainchild of Trina Vargo, who is based in Washington and has worked with both Senator Ted Kennedy on Capitol Hill and with Senator George Mitchell in Northern Ireland. A force of nature and an able political operator, she has cultivated support at the highest levels in Hollywood for the Oscars Wilde. "The event was created to provide a networking event to introduce people in the entertainment industries in Ireland to the US entertainment industry," she said. Small "It's not a hooley, but I deliberately wanted it to be casual and unstuffy and I deliberately try to think outside the box. I was criticised by some people for giving James L Brooks an honorary Irishman award last year, but look what it led to." The Irish Film Board (IFB) has given a small degree of support to the event, but there is an evident lack of enthusiasm to develop it. For the past two years, it hosted a more low key event in a hotel the night before for Irish film industry people visiting LA. This year it is not hosting this party, nor any event to honour the three Irish Oscar nominees and neither are any senior IFB personnel travelling to LA. The IFB CEO, Simon Perry, told the Herald that until the new tax exemptions for filming in Ireland are ratified by the EU, "it makes no sense for us to plan a full-scale trade mission (to LA) in the next few weeks". Ms Vargo has expressed frustration at the tepid support her annual event has been offered. http://www.herald.ie/entertainment/film-cinema/guess-whos-skipping-the-irish-preoscar-party-our-film-board-1645342.html

Вельвет: Джонатан на этом вручение не был Это уже как то начинает реально тревожить Our stars miss a Wilde party, but Hylda is the toast of Hollywood AWARD: Oscar favourite Kate pays tribute to Irish agent After missing the IFTAs and BAFTAs, Jonathan Rhys Meyers failed to show up at another star studded awards show last night, where he was due to be honoured for The Tudors. The Cork-born actor did not board the flight from London scheduled to bring him to the Oscar Wilde celebration of Irish film in LA, and has been feeling 'unwell' in recent weeks. The star who has fought a battle with alcoholism was pictured recently in London looking highly dishevelled. Another star who was noticeably absent was Brendan Gleeson. The Dublin actor was also honoured with an Oscar Wilde last night but sent his thanks and apologies from a Dublin hospital where, it's understood, his father is seriously ill. Hot Oscar favourite Kate Winslet was on hand to present an award. The acclaimed actress was like a kitten as she presented the Oscar Wilde award to her agent from county Clare, Hylda Queally. The Academy Award nominee told the audience she wouldn't be where she is today were it not for Hylda, her agent for the past 16 years. "For people who don't know Hylda Queally, their life is not complete", gushed Winslet. "I first met her in London when I was just 17 and she ate loads of potatoes, but I didn't realise then that was just a way to reel me in." She told the audience, which included several other Oscar nominees, including Freida Pinto and film mogul Harvey Weinstein, that she never could have dreamed the adventures agent Queally would have led her on when they first met. "I loved her instantly. She has enhanced and changed my life," she said. Queally, who has avoided the limelight generally, said she was there reluctantly, thanks mostly to the pressure of her mother in Clare. Rhys Meyers' award was accepted by the head of Ardmore Studios, Morgan O' Sullivan, who said the actor was the heart of The Tudors. "Most of the verve and vitality in this show comes from Jonathan." http://www.herald.ie/entertainment/around-town/our-stars-miss-a-wilde--party-but-hylda-is--the-toast-of-hollywood-1647404.html

The Wilde Irish Posted: 02/23/2009 08:30:29 PM PST St. Patrick's Day is still a few weeks away, but the best Irish hooley in town took place last Thursday. The occasion was the fourth annual "Oscar Wilde: Honoring the Irish in Film" pre-Academy Awards party. The U.S.-Ireland Alliance, a nonprofit organization created to promote ties between the U.S. and Ireland, honored talent agent Hylda Queally and actors Brendan Gleeson and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. The Hibernian hyperbole always flows as smooth as the Harp lager at this laid-back "green-carpet" affair, which is the quintessential opposite of the glitzy Oscar-night bashes. Staged at the venerable Wilshire Ebell Club in Los Angeles, the "other Oscar" party drew a stellar crowd of 400. Best Actress Oscar winner Kate Winslet presented Queally with the award, a crystal sculpture created by Simon Pearce. Along with Winslet, Queally's star clients include Cate Blanchett, Abbie Cornish, Pen lope Cruz, Freida Pinto, Jamie Dornan, Marion Cotillard, Isla Fisher, Rinko Kikuchi, Mathieu Amalric, Ben Whishaw, Evangeline Lilly, Guillaume Canet, Michelle Williams and Simon Pegg. In acknowledging the honor, Queally recalled her modest beginnings when her first office was a phone booth. "While growing up in Ireland, I received packages of hand-me-down clothes from my American relatives," she said. "When I opened the box, it was what I believed was the smell of `America.' Now I know that it was the scent of Downy fabric softener!" Rose Byrne, a Golden Advertisement Quantcast Globe-nominee, accepted the award for Gleeson, who was unable to attend for family reasons. A former teacher, Gleeson's career rise began with Jim Sheridan's "The Field," followed by a number of roles in such films as "Far and Away," "Into the West" and "Braveheart." His latest project is "Green Zone." He recently appeared in "In Bruges" and has just completed the HBO movie "Into the Storm," in which he portrays Winston Churchill. Gleeson sent a video acceptance from Dublin. Byrne, who worked with Gleeson in "Troy," noted: "Long ago, before he starred in films, Brendan's high school students knew what countless screen antagonists had to learn the hard way: `Don't mess with Mr. Gleeson."' Dana Delany, a star of "Desperate Housewives," presented Rhys Meyers' award to producer Morgan O'Sullivan, who accepted it on his behalf. Rhys Meyers, who hails from County Cork, first gained attention and a London Film Critics Circle Award for his starring role in "Velvet Goldmine." Since then he has won a Golden Globe Award for his role as "The King" in the CBS television miniseries "Elvis" and recently received a Golden Globe nomination for his role as Henry VIII in Showtime's "The Tudors," which just wrapped its third season and is beginning its fourth. In addition he has completed the psycho-thriller "Shelter" opposite Julianne Moore. Previous Oscar Wilde honorees include James L. Brooks, Colm Meaney, Fiona Shaw, Van Morrison, Terry George, Bill Monahan, Neil Jordan, Jim Sheridan and David Holmes. Irish musicians Gemma Hayes, Laura Izibor and Republic of Loose provided the mood music, which included a performance by singer Maura O'Connell, who sang a County Clare song in honor of Queally, who is from the same county in the west of Ireland. Charlie Koones, former publisher of Variety and head of Rockmore Media, emceed the event that featured a lavish buffet provided by Kensington Caterers' Richard Mooney of San Marino. In addition to Winslet, Cruz (who won for Best Supporting Actress) and Pinto, other 2009 Oscar nominees in attendance were Robin Swicord, Redmond Morris, Nathan Crowley, Stephanie Green and Tamara Anghie. Among others seen were Harvey Weinstein, Tracey Ullman and Allan McKeown, Lions Gate Vice Chairman Michael Burns, super-agents Kevin Huvane and Bryan Lourd, producers Ron Yerxa, Alan Moloney, and U.S.-Ireland Alliance President Trina Vargo. GIVING NEW HOPE Linda and Alexander Cappello were honored by the board of trustees and the council of the Children's Burn Foundation at the Giving New Hope gala held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Feb. 19 to benefit the Sherman Oaks-based recovery center for young burn survivors. Linda Cappello is a dedicated board member of the council and also serves on the boards of the International Medical Corps, a global relief agency, and Las Floristas, which supports Handicapped Children's Clinics of Rancho Los Amigos National Medical Center in Downey. Along with her membership in the Blue Ribbon of the Music Center and the Friends of Heritage Preservation, she and Alex chair the Tradition of Hope Gala to benefit Augie's Quest, the Muscular Dystrophy/ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) initiative. Alex Cappello is founder and CEO of The Cappello Group, a global merchant bank operating in 50 countries, which he launched while a student at USC's Marshall School of Business. He is international chairman emeritus of the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO). As a member of the USC board of trustees, he has led the local YPO chapter in establishing an endowment fund for scholarships for MBA students at USC and UCLA. His company offers numerous internships to business students. Alex is also chairman emeritus of Catholic Big Brothers & Sisters of Los Angeles. An avid fine art collector and voracious reader, Alex cites Leonardo da Vinci as his lifelong inspiration. His friends have characterized him as a Renaissance man. "I do have a passion for quality things," he said, "They hold their value. As for the `Renaissance-man' reference, my professional philosophy is that there isn't a business that doesn't benefit from a rebirth." KNBC-4 weathercaster Fritz Coleman emceed the event, which was co-chaired by the Billers along with Debby and Paul Hopper, Suzanne and Ric Kayne and Lindsey Kozberg. http://www.pasadenastarnews.com/ci_11770512
