Вельвет: The growth of Donatella and Versace Donatella soon proved to be the public relations giant within the Versace label and spread its name throughout Europe and most of the United States. Donatella chose to place some of her good friends, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Demi Moore, in high esteem in the Versace advertising sector, making them and other A-List celebrities the persona and image of Versace. http://maisonchaplin.blogspot.com/2009/06/wiki-donatella-versace.html

Вельвет: Сегодня открылся фестиваль телевизионных фильмов в Монте_Карло! ДЖонатан номинирован за Тюдоров на лучшего актера! Закрытие фестиваля 11 июня FAIR City actress Una Kavanagh was among the well-known faces who jetted off to Monaco this morning for the 49th annual Monte Carlo Television Festival, which kicks off tomorrow evening. Una has been short-listed for the Outstanding Actress Award for her role in the movie Bittersweet and will go head-to-head with actresses Julie Waters and Isabelle Adjani for the title. The RTE star played the part of Carmel alongside Deirdre O'Kane and Catherine Walker in the TV film. "It's a huge honour," Una told the Herald. "It was an absolute shock ... I didn't tell anyone for about a week in case they called to say they had made a mistake. "I'm not a bit nervous because I have no intentions whatsoever that I'm going to win," she laughed. Una will join some of the biggest names in television from at home and abroad at the glitzy five-day bash. The exclusive event will be presided over by Monaco's Prince Albert II and will see Una and other Irish representatives rub shoulders with some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Among those flying the flag for Irish television is Jonathan Rhys Meyers for his role in the Tudors and his colleague Peter O'Toole, Keith McErlean for Raw and Armagh actor Colin Morgan for his role in Merlin. All four have been nominated for the Best Male Television Actor award. While those who have received nods in the Actress section include Charlene McKenna in Raw, Maria Doyle Kennedy for the Tudors and Katie McGrath for her part in Merlin. Irish actor Chris O'Dowd who has received a dual nomination in the Outstanding Actor and Comedy categories, being acknowledged for his role in FM and The IT Crowd. Comedian Pat Shortt has been nominated for a host of awards.

Вельвет: Jonathan Rhys Meyers. While not on our team, the super handsome gay-friendly Irish actor-model is officially a fashionista. JRM has been the face of several Versace menswear campaigns, and, is the face of Hugo Boss cologne. He’s taken his role as spokesmodel very seriously even dresses up for the paparazzi on his way to Starbucks. http://www.afterelton.com/bgwe/02-27-09?page=0%2C1

Вельвет: Десятка самых сексуальных ирландцев 10. Colin Farrell. This Irish bad boy is notorious for his off-screen behavior. Farrell is extremely popular internationally (most notably in America). Farrell has worked with names such as Salma Hayek, Oliver Stone, Steven Spielberg, Al Pacino, Ben Affleck, Cate Blanchett, and more. Farrell is also a director. 9. Cillian Murphy. Murphy is one of those faces--"That's that guy!" He is highly recognizable, but few put the face with the name. Murphy frequently chooses independent films over big-budget masterpieces. His more popular and influential performances include The Wind That Shakes the Barley (a must for anyone interested in Irish history), Girl With a Pearl Earring, and 28 Days Later. Read more at The CillianSite. 8. Aidan Quinn. Born in the United States, Quinn was raised primarily in Ireland. This wide-eyed actor has been seen in popular movies such as Legends of the Fall and Michael Collins, but remains a personal favorite to many due to his work in controversial and independent projects such as The Book of Daniel and Songcatcher. IMDb reports that Quinn is also a friend of legendary singer-songwriter Paul McCartney. 7. Colm Meaney. Meaney has served as a stock Irish character in multiple films. His more popular roles include a long-time portrayal of Chief O'Brien on multiple Star Trek series and ward boss Kelly in Far and Away. Meaney is notable for his constant transition between television and film, making this Dublin native one of the most prolific actors to ever come out of Ireland. 6. Bono. U2's front man has been at the head of charitable works. His popularity is indisputable, despite the fact that almost as many people seem to dislike him. Known for his sexy shades and rock star cool, Bono's upbringing (having both an Anglican and Irish Catholic parent) has been a hot topic, frequently and openly discussed by the celebrity. Bono also claims that his trademark shades are not just there to complement his golden voice: his eyes are very light-sensitive. 5. Pierce Brosnan. Born in County Meath, Ireland, Pierce Brosnan is truly Irish and American, holding dual citizenship. Brosnan is officially sealed as 'sexy' due to his portrayal of James Bond in some of the Bond films. Fans also laud his bathing suit appearance in Mrs. Doubtfire, though recently many have expressed dislike over his acting (and vocal attempt) in Mamma Mia. 4. Stuart Townsend. Not just anyone could play a character by the name of Dorian Gray, and this actor fit the bill for the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen portrayal. Townsend earns automatic cool points for his part in Robot Chicken. Though this hottie tends to stick to low-key roles, he was reportedly the original pick to play Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. 3. Kenneth Branagh. A classic favorite, Branagh was raised in a Protestant family in Belfast. To avoid being affected by sectarian violence, his family relocated to England, where Branagh adopted an English accent to avoid taunting or worse from classmates. Despite the potential difficulties, Branagh culturally identifies himself as Irish and is outspoken about the issue. Deemed a master of Shakespearean acting, Branagh has played in many Shakespearean film adaptations including Othello, Hamlet, and Henry V. 2. Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Deemed 'Dublin's finest,' Jonathan Rhys Meyers is extremely famous for his role as King Henry VIII in The Tudors. Meyers is a master of publicity, using his charming smile to secure his position as an international sex symbol and superstar. More than just a pretty face, this Golden Globe winner's filmography boasts everything from pop culture to Shakespeare. 1. Liam Neeson. Named after his family's priest, Liam Neeson has portrayed many poignant and pivotal roles in film. He is said to be particularly desirable when wearing a kilt in Rob Roy, and seems to favor a message of independence as well in his lead role portrayal in Michael Collins. His most discussed and critically-acclaimed portrayal, however, is that of Oskar Schindler in Schindler's List. Neeson seems to go out of his way to pick ethically and politically-charged roles, including the voice of Aslan in The Chronicles of Narnia. Additionally, Neeson seemed born to play the mentoring role of Qui'Gon Jinn in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Aging with grace, this distinguished Irish actor still has all the right moves (and weapons proficiencies) in the recent action flick Taken. Neeson's boyish gaze combined with his strong features and rebellious roles certainly make him worth of the title of hottest male Irish celebrity. http://www.examiner.com/x-1458-Philadelphia-Irish-American-Community-Examiner~y2009m6d9-Hottest-Irish-actors

Вельвет: If Tom Cruise Doesn’t Headline ‘Mission: Impossible IV,’ Then Who Should Take His Place? Published by Josh Wigler on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 12:00 pm. Tom CruiseLike MTV Movies Blog editor Adam Rosenberg, I too am a fan of “Mission: Impossible III,” and I’m happy to hear that series star Tom Cruise and “III” director J.J. Abrams will reunite for a fourth outing with Ethan Hunt and the IMF gang. What really catches my interest is the latest news from The Hollywood Reporter, which confirms TV Guide’s earlier scoop of Abrams and Cruise’s return to the franchise. It’s not the confirmation that has my spider-sense tingling but the insinuation that Cruise might no longer be the face of the “Mission: Impossible” franchise. Citing an unnamed executive source, the THR story mentions that he might hand the reigns over to a younger actor, or even to an ensemble. It’s hard to imagine that Tom Cruise would step into the producer role and leave his acting shoes back home. It certainly is not out of the realm of possibility that the actor, now 46, could ask for a minimized role in the “Impossible” series. Could Ethan Hunt be heading for a desk job — as he had tried to do in the third film — leaving the door open for a new agent to take his place on the field? For the moment, let’s imagine that Cruise is indeed passing the torch. Who would be best suited to replace him? Surely, a Ving Rhames-headlining “Mission: Impossible IV” seems out of the question in attracting a mainstream audience. He’s great, but he’s not exactly one of Hollywood’s go-to leading men. I would certainly see a midnight showing of a Rhames-led “M:I” movie, no question! But are there other characters from the series that could take the lead? It’s easy to forget that Jonathan Rhys Meyers had a bit role to play in “M:I III” as Declan Gormley, a member of the newly assembled IMF squad. The actor’s star is on the rise thanks to his celebrated performance as Henry VIII on “The Tudors,” a Showtime series that chronicles the history of Henry’s rule over England. Meyers is only 32 years old and he has pre-established history within the “Impossible” franchise. Those factors, along with the cheaper paycheck he would draw as compared to an actor of Tom Cruise’s caliber, mean you could have the perfect and in many ways ready-made replacement for Ethan Hunt. Still, I wonder if elevating Declan’s character would feel forced, and if it’s best to just keep him as part of the ensemble. In either case, that’s one thing I hope remains consistent between “III” and “IV” — say what you will about Cruise, but there’s no denying Abrams’ ability to manage an ensemble. He did it perfectly during his tenure on “Alias” and “Lost,” then proved himself again with both “M:I III” and “Star Trek.” Maybe the best route then would be to keep Meyers and the rest of the last movie’s ensemble — including Simon Pegg, Laurence Fishburne and the aforementioned Rhames — in place. In that scenario, would the film be better served as a pure ensemble piece or as a star vehicle for a newcomer? There are plenty of rising stars in Hollywood that could take over Cruise’s leading man status. Abrams has a knack for pulling young actors up by their bootstraps and shooting them to stardom — just look at Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth. There are several other actors on the small screen that he could give a similar boost to, such as “Lost”’s Josh Holloway, “True Blood’s” Alexander Skarsgård and former “Alias” actor-turned “Heroes” villain David Anders. Heck, even Meyers’ “Tudors” co-star Henry Cavill could fit the bill. Of course, there are literally hundreds of established movie stars that Cruise could pass the baton to, from “Bourne” star Matt Damon to “Terminator: Salvation” breakout Sam Worthington to the multi-faceted Sam Rockwell to… well… whoever. The pool of A-List and B-List candidates is truly endless. Maybe the most obvious possibility is that THR’s speculation won’t pan out, and that Tom Cruise will be back in a leading man capacity. As the trade itself notes, both Harrison Ford and Bruce Willis pulled off extraordinary box office numbers with fourth installments in the “Indiana Jones” and “Die Hard” franchises, respectively — and they both have several years on Cruise. Still, it’s worth wondering how the “Mission: Impossible” series should proceed with its fourth installment. Should Cruise and Abrams be looking towards tomorrow, bringing in a fresh face to represent several new films to come? Or does Cruise still have it in him for at least one more “Impossible” mission? http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2009/06/18/if-tom-cruise-doesnt-headline-mission-impossible-iv-then-who-should-take-his-place/

The face of Hugo Boss stepped out with Belfast model Katie Larmour, while he was taking a break from filming the widely-anticipated latest series of The Tudors. The two have become close over the past few months, with Jonathan even whisking the Belfast beauty to Paris last year to enjoy a romantic weekend together. The 31-year-old, who has received widespread critical acclaim for his lusty portrayal of Henry VIII, also took the time to reassure his fans who have been following media reports that he had recently endured another stint in rehab for his battle with the bottle. "I'm okay, there's no need to worry, I'm doing fine," he said. The Cork-born star enjoyed dinner in Bang Cafe with the 5ft 5ins beauty and a host of crew members from The Tudors, as they celebrated a friend's birthday. They then went on to the exclusive Residence member's bar on St Stephen's Green where they continued to party the night away. - NIAMH HORAN Entertainment Reporter http://www.independent.ie/national-news/no-worries-for-tudors-star-on-the-town-with-latest-squeeze-1782437.html

Лэйли: Ужас какой то!

Вельвет: Something strange is happening to our leading men - they are fading, blurring and losing their edge. Visit the cinema or turn on the television and you'll see an endless string of interchangeable heroes whose unique selling point is that they don't have one. It seems that the days are largely gone when young actors were hired for their individual charms and charisma - think Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson. A trend that started a few years ago has become so widespread that we are now presented with heroes whose cloned looks are so bland they are defined by each film they make, instead of the other way round. Far from insisting on acting ability or screen presence, directors and producers are demanding that their leading men are so indistinguishable that they end up blending together in audiences' minds: Rob Pattinson and Taylor Lautner battle for Kristen Stewart's heart in Twilight, but the sweep of their floppy hair and the gaze of their long-lashed, doe-like eyes are so similar that it is no surprise that the fictional Bella has trouble making her choice. Blair faces the same problem in Gossip Girl when she is asked to choose between the baby-faced Ed Westwick and the cherub-cheeked Chace Crawford. Pattinson not only resembles Lautner: both also share the antiseptically handsome facial traits of Westwick and Crawford. All four boy-men have an uncanny similarity to the soft cheekbones and gentle jawlines of Ian Somerhalder from Lost, who himself looks like Ashton Kutcher, Chris Pine from Star Trek, James Marsden from Hairspray and Mr Scarlett Johansson, Ryan Reynolds. The list doesn't end there: in Britain there is Jonathan Rhys Meyers of The Tudors, Sam Preston of The Ordinary Boys and Mathew Horne of Gavin & Stacey. Then there is Chris Evans of the Fantastic Four, who shares the same full, soft lips and perfectly symmetrical face as Robert Buckley from Lipstick Jungle, and Jason Segel, the wide-eyed Marshall in How I Met Your Mother The New York Observer is so convinced of the phenomenon it has christened the "new male beauty" that it has identified a formula describing the precise science of the identikit look. "Those wide-set eyes, the narrow nose that flares up at the tip just so, the childish puffy cheeks and the not-too-rugged jaw lines, topped with carefully placed strands of layered hair," wrote Irina Aleksander. "Compared to the new male beauty, even Justin Timberlake and Adrian Grenier seem distinctive and grizzled. It's a face that used to only be found in teen magazines, to be tacked on to the petal-pink bedroom walls of adolescent girls. Now it dominates the box office." Heroines used to be the interchangeable ones. With characters largely defined by their hair colour - sizzling blonde or serious brunette - a woman's screen presence was intended as an undistracting background against which leading men could define themselves and shine. But now, say casting agents, directors and psychologists, today's up-and-coming male stars are so similar that industry bosses are able to replace one with another with barely a pause for thought. It is unthinkable that a director could replace, say, George Clooney with Clive Owen or Leonardo DiCaprio without substantial rewrites to suit the defining characteristics of his new leading man. But when Zac Efron recently made a last-minute decision to pull out of the remake of the 1980s hit, Footloose, Paramount barely flinched. Instead the studio replaced him with another wide-eyed, soft-faced beauty: Crawford. And got on with shooting the film. Efron was apparently shocked by the speed of his replacement, made so seamlessly that his precipitate departure didn't delay the film's release date for a single day. He is not alone in discovering the insecurity that comes with being just one pretty face among many. The ease with which such decisions can be made by directors who can choose from a stable of interchangeable leading men was also a shock to Tobey Maguire, who withdrew his threat to pull out of the Spider-Man franchise after director Sam Raimi said Maguire could be easily replaced with Jake Gyllenhaal. The lure of the new male beauty is spreading beyond Hollywood. It is increasingly being lionised on the catwalk, where a few years ago it was the size-zero boys, with their undernourished, sexually ambivalent figures who called the fashion shots. Now, however, the physiques of the models have become rounded; their angular edges softened and their emaciated faces feminised. The adoration of the baby-faced look reached its apogee in the fashion world this month when Yves St Laurent preceded his spring 2010 men's show with a short film in Paris featuring Jules, the 11-year-old son of the film's director and writer, Samuel Benchetrit. In the eight-minute short, Jules finds a key to a hotel room. Once inside, he rifles through an adult's wardrobe, puts on a man's blazer, reads a love letter and watches porn. Dr Steven Pearlman, a former president of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, said his patients have started citing Efron's features as their ideal, instead of the more manly look they have favoured in the past. Individuality, he said, has been overrun by the quest for perfect proportion. "Fifteen years ago men absolutely wanted to maintain that rugged look, which meant that higher bridge and stronger features. Now they want a softer look," he said. "Even just a couple of years ago, we were talking about Orlando Bloom, Justin Timberlake and Leonardo DiCaprio. Now it's Zac. Our culture is leaning towards a more empathetic man who can understand a woman's feelings, and that comes out in new facial features." Historically, male sex appeal used to be diametrically opposed to this fascination with the pre-pubescent look of the man-child: think the remote, heavy countenance of Marlon Brando, the pronounced features of Sean Penn and the expressive eyes of Nicholson and Clooney. "High testosterone is about prominent chins, deep-set eyes, heavy brows, a full head of hair and strong features," said Aleksander. "That's the caveman who could inseminate you and procreate." So why has it happened? In her 2003 book, The Boy, Germaine Greer lamented the increase in the number of "simpering 30-year-olds with shaved chests" who attempt to imitate " the short-lived beauty of [real] boys". Why, instead of seeking out manly men, are girls preferring the big eyes and rounded features more usually associated with babies? It could be that female audiences are reacting to an era in which traditional masculinity has left a sinking economy, the possibility of environmental catastrophe and violent conflicts in the Middle East and beyond, by yearning for a softer and nurturing hero. Research by psychologists at St Andrews University found that women use a man's face to judge how he will behave in a relationship. "Women find delicate features more trustworthy and caring," said Professor David Perret. "Features such as enlarged cheekbones, jaws and chins are seen as masculine, but, if a woman is looking to settle down, she will look for a guy with a level of femininity." Lynda Boothroyd, a psychologist at Durham University, agreed. When women are looking for the perfect man, Boothroyd found, they overwhelmingly choose pretty boys such as Leonardo DiCaprio and singer Enrique Iglesias over "rougher" men. "Women may want muscle in the short term, but long term they prefer men with more feminine features, associating this with fidelity, warmth and better parenting." The attraction of the feminine man is that of the mirror image or soul mate. "Teenage girls who are alarmed by their own suddenly visible sexuality react instinctively against manly features," she said. "Girls are also exaggeratedly maternal and they respond - don't we all? - to sweetness and poignancy. The lost boy is an irresistible figure. Feminine features convey youth, and young men are instinctively less sexist - and racist - than older ones." But Andrea Oliveri, the editorial projects director at Details magazine, who is responsible for choosing the publication's cover boys, disagreed. For her, it is Hollywood that is engendering these Stepford Wife-like New Male Beauties, not the other way around. "High School Musical was successful not because Zac Efron was in it: Zac became famous as a result of the huge phenomenon that it is ," she said. "I mean, you didn't know who Rob Pattinson was a year ago, you never even heard his name! And now he's this phenomenon as a result of Twilight." This, say the experts, is where the lasting impact of New Male Beauty will be felt. If studios can coax audiences to accept an army of light-eyed, interchangeable drones - in the place of specific stars with their sky-high salaries and outrageous demands - then they are the overall winners. http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2009/jun/28/fashion-male-beauty

Вельвет: For once, Leigh Arnold and Marcus Sweeney weren't the focus for all eyes in Residence last weekend. On the Friday night it was the turn of Jonathan Rhys Meyers -- happily, far away from any airport unpleasantness -- and his latest love interest, Northern Ireland TV presenter Katie Larmour. It's nice to see a girl with her head on her shoulders, because when the pint-sized heart-throb held court with numerous other ladies in waiting -- sorry, I mean ladies -- at the bar of the Stokes brothers' private members club in Stephen's Green, she didn't bat an eyelid. The pair were earlier in Bang Cafe, also owned by the Stokes boys, as were Virginia Macari and her Norwegian boyfriend Kas. Also creating a frisson in Residence last week, albeit for different reasons, was none other than Ian Galvin. The fashion mogul flew Karen Millen's creative director Gemma Metheringham over from London to show a preview of Karen's autumn collection. The show was attended by Sunday Independent fashion editrix Constance Harris and the two Jackies -- Lavin and Rafter -- among others Busty designer Virginia and Kas, meanwhile, were expected at this weekend's Respect Lions lunch -- to raise funds for the charity which cares for people with intellectual disabilities -- at the Four Seasons Hotel, along with Ronan Ryan and girlfriend Pamela Flood. http://www.independent.ie/entertainment/news-gossip/katie-unfazed-as-tudors-star-holds-court-with-ladies-1794672.html

Вельвет: GIVE ME A BREAK: WHEN I WAS a kid growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, there were two big events on hot summer days: the arrival of the ice cream man at dusk and then about an hour later, the trapping of fireflies in glass jars. When I was sixteen, I started working in the summers and haven’t stopped since. My children have a rather different life. “How did it go?” I ask. “It was OK.” My 14-year-old daughter replies, just back from her fitting at Ardmore Studios and leaving me gagging for information. “What’s your costume like?” “It’s like a brownish-blackish bin bag with buttons,” she says, totally deadpan. “So, what were the people like? Did you meet anyone famous?” My daughter thinks this is a sad question. “They’re all just normal people, Mom.” “I suppose they are,” I say. I quite like the notion of Jonathan Rhys Meyers being just normal people. I also wouldn’t be averse to running in to him at Ardmore Studios while he was having a costume fitting. “So did you meet King Henry?” “Who?” She is blasé. She is so comfortable in her role as a glorified extra that I fear she may have inherited the theatre gene from certain members of the family. “You know, Jonathan Rhys Meyers.” The name trips off my tongue. My daughter and her fellow choir singers at the Kingstown Academy in Dún Laoghaire have been hired to sing religious music by Thomas Tallis for King Henry in what I gather is an extravagant court scene. “Jonathan who?” she asks. The really hot guy that’s the star of the show, I want to say, but I don’t. Hearing your mother call a younger man “hot” wouldn’t go down well. “I was just wondering if you happened to meet Jonathan Rhys Meyers, that’s all.” “Oh, him. He’s old, Mom.” Too young for me, too old for her. What a tragedy. Aside from the chance of meeting the fabulous JRM, the real advantage to having your daughter in The Tudors is that it’s like free summer camp. She’s been in rehearsals for the past couple of weeks and tomorrow’s shooting of her scene has been a deadline to aim for. Since school ended, I haven’t once heard her say “I’m bored.” “I get paid,” she tells me. “How much?” “?18. Do we need it for the bills or can I keep it?” “You can keep it,” I answer. I want her to buy herself something pretty. My eldest has been a brilliant unofficial au pair for the other two. When I come home in the evenings I find that she and her younger siblings have cleaned the kitchen and done laundry. Apart from the younger daughter’s near-misses with JRM, the children’s daily highlights are walking the dogs and because the weather has been amazing, going for a swim down at Sandycove. Maybe if I could afford language courses and summer camps and sailing lessons they’d be more enriched, but I have a notion that being left to their own devices doesn’t hold them back at all. They’re lucky to live in such a lovely place in such beautiful weather. But at the end of the week my eldest is going to France with a friend’s family. People who bring your kids on holiday are generous and it gives your teenager yet another experience of relative independence in a safe environment. She’s going to have a chance to speak French with locals, which will be great preparation for next year’s Leaving Cert, but we will all miss her. Every time she goes away, it’s like another little tendon of connection is being torn away. It has to happen. She has to grow up and she’s very good at growing up, but part of me still wants her to be a little girl in a flowery dress looking for bugs in the garden. My son, meanwhile, is quite happy knocking a tennis ball around, with him as Roddick and me as Williams. Problem is, the balls keep flying out of the garden and into the neighbours’, never to be found again. He’s also entertained by his iPod touch (given to him by his father who got it for free due to his 02 upgrade but he couldn’t figure out how to use it) and his Playstation. I feel guilty for not indulging him with one enriching experience after the next but I can’t help thinking that the B-word (as in bored) is a good thing if it makes him pick up a book. Dad, meanwhile, is at his own summer camp this week in Bantry, teaching a screenwriting course. The only one without a summer camp is me. The Irish Times office is definitely not a summer camp these days, with the sun streaming through windows that we can’t open. With kids at home that I would really rather be with than here, I feel like a trapped firefly. http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/features/2009/0707/1224250169214.html
